It was a rough day for the 16's. 0-3. That is what happens when a team is not able to serve receive well. The team passed 1.04 for the day. You could have the greatest setter in the world and best hitters in the United States, and the team will will struggle if the best your passers can do is 1.04. It is why I am always harping that the two most important skills in volleyball are serving and passing the serve. We could not pass the serve. Because of that, we struggled to be competitive.

12's: Coach Ginnie led her team to a perfect 2-0 day. They beat Madison Grant in two and then Cass Co. in three. The impressive thing was that so many girls were overhand serving and deep on the court.
15's: Both 15-8's Tina and 15-8's Denny ended the day 1-2. The key was Tina went 1-1 in pool play and then lost a tough third match in three sets. Denny went 0-2 in pool play and then beat a young Winamac team in cross over play. The 18's had another successful weekend as they went to a new location in Hammond, IN and earned a number one seed following pool play and finished runner up in the competition. M. Ball had a great day hitting opposite as she collect 10 kills on 24 swings to hit a team leading .375. P. Jones chipped in with 16 kills and hitting .250 for the day. P. Jones and M. McMains combined for 10 aces with three errors (all by Page) for a 3.3:1 ace to error ratio. They passed well as a team. K. Hammond passed 2.11 (That covered up for one of our primary passers who passed 1.26, we were lucky she only passed 15 balls, and the libero who passed below 1.60.), L. Schriner passed 1.60, M. McMains passed a solid 1.73, A. Borden fought back from a crappy start to pass 1.57, and A. May passed 1.67. I am not sure what their record ends up. It was a different format. All I know for sure is they won a lot more than they lost.
The 18's won their pool (beating SEIVC from Batesville, Circle City Volt from Indy, and GCVC from ??) and advanced to the Championship Crossover where they got beat by a very good Cougar VBC. At its core, CVBC is Trinity Lutheran in Seymour, Indiana. They were the 1A Class Runner-up in 2019. The are well coached, are active in recruiting, and have good players. They make for a good measuring stick. Detailed stats are in the blog. Observations are after the break.
The 2020 club is officially underway as the 18's traveled north to play Plymouth. Being a scrimmage, there was no score kept (wink wink) but the coaches felt they won every segment of the two hour competition. Stats are over in the blog in the "CIViC Home" drop down. A couple of observations after looking at stats and eight minutes of film.
18's at CIViC:
Team Goodspeed went 3-0 and Worl went 2-1. 16's at Daleville: It was a day on the struggle bus. Madison Miller went 1-2 and Meghan Miller went 0-3. In Meghan's defense, they suffered an injury and had a primary passer home with the flu. Hard to overcome two injuries on the fly. 15's at Caston: CIViC went 1-2 in three competitive matches. Sam Adams played great on the day. 13's at Pioneer: CIViC won the pool going 3-0. These girls are doing well. 12's at Pioneer: CIViC went 1-2, but the highlight of the day was hanging tough with a team that beat them up a month ago. Saturday found CIViC teams at Caston and Madison-Grant for competition. The elementary teams did well at Caston as Morgan's 6th graders (thank you for helping Mrs. Viney) went 2-1 on the day and their one loss was super close at 23-25 and 23-25. Jordan and Tommie's team of little one went 1-1 pushing their season record to 4-1 on the season.
Tough weekend of hosting as the CIViC teams went 1-5 on Saturday. To be honest, each team is playing a level too high. The 8th grade is a B level team playing A. The 7th grade is a C level team playing B.
The 8th grade went 1-2 losing a painful one to Peru in three, beating Cass Co., and getting hammered by Southwood. The 7th grade's day was even more painful. They lost each match in 3 sets. The first full weekend of play in the NCIPL took place and CIViC teams were active across the power league.
18's The 18's were on the road really early Sunday morning as they traveled to Plainfield, IN where they went 3-1, beating Limestone Capital once again 25-14, 27-25, Nuf Volleyball (Indianpolis) 25-17, 25-23, and Decatur Force 18's (Decatur, IN) 25-11, 25-23. What the heck is with the 2nd sets? They lost to the Starlings 22-25, 18-25. They are now 6-2 for the season. Their stats are in the blog. The 18's opened their season going 3-1. They opened the day beating Limestone Capital (Bedford, IN) 25-20, 25-17. They followed that beating VC (Vermillion Co., Illinois) Power 25-12, 25-18. They won pool play by beating Cass Co. 17's 25-17, 22-25, 15-8. In the championship they lost to Infinity (Wayne Co., IN) 25-19, 21-25, 9-15. Stats behind the "Read More" break.
