It was a mixed bag of results in Royal Center. 18's Gretchen went 2-1 in the A pool. 17's McMains/Loe went 3-0 in the C pool. 17's Wolf/Worl went 0-3 in the B pool.

Cass Co. VBC drove south and won the NCIPL play date without dropping a set, but what competitive matches! The most lopsided score of the day was 25-17.
CIViC Birnell beat CIViC Jones 25-17, 25-18. They then lost the best match of the day to Cass Co. 22-25, 26-27. Finished the day beat Plymouth 27-26, 25-21. CIViC Jones/Goodman lost to CIViC 17-25, 18-25. They rebounded to beat Plymouth 25-20, 25-23. Finished the day the way it started, lost to Cass Co. 17-25, 18-25. The story of the day, as it usually is at this level, was serving. Which ever team could keep their serve in play won. Also, I am proud that it has been years, decades since I have asked a group of CIViC parents to "knock it off." The behavior of an adult or couple adults from Plymouth was shameful in regards to a CIViC player who was line judging. I do not ever want our club represented that way or have to think the word "shameful" and CIViC in the same moment. CIViC's 15's team travelled to Southwood for NCIPL competition. CIViC Eurit went 1-2 in the C pool. They missed too many serves to have a better day. In the two matches they lost, they missed 11 serves in each. By comparison, we missed 2 serves against Winamac. Coach Crum went 3-0 in the B pool. We beat a pretty good V2 team in 25-17, 25-20. Then beat Eastbrook 25-17, 25-22. We finished the day off beating Winamac in 25-15, 25-9.
17's Worl (Coach Wolf was attending a memorial service for a friend) and McMains/Loe competed near the Ohio border.
Worl's team won their pool beating Cass Co. vbc 25-18, 25-11 and then Lincoln vbc 25-10, 25-21. They crossed over to beat Lincoln's A team 25-19, 26-27, and 15-9 winning the day. Coach Dawn's team spent the day playing three sets. They beat Lincoln 25-22, 16-25, 15-11 and lost to Jay Co. 25-18, 19-25, 13-15. They crossed over to beat Lincoln's B team in three, but I am sorry I forgot to pick up the score sheet. Results after the break. Gretchen took a team to Anderson University to show off some of our players Anderson is interested in recruiting. They started pool play by beating the Starlings out of Indy 25-11, 25-11. Then beat Magnum Force 25-19, 25-13. Then played a very good Ft. Wayne vbc team and lost 25-23, 22-25, 11-15. They then crossed over to beat Decatur Force winning a close 3rd set 16-14 after surrending a late lead. As expected they found Ft. Wayne waiting in the championship match. Ft. Wayne knew who they wanted to attack on serve. The results were a less than competitive 13-25 19-25 defeat. The two kids Anderson wanted to see both shined as S. Rogers and N. Moses impressed the Anderson coaching staff. Once again, G. Filbrun caught the attention of some college coaches. The last match was a little disappointing, but all-in-all it was a good day as Ft. Wayne vbc is not chopped liver.
Our 18's took the long drive to Cambridge City. Gretchen went 3-0 in the A pool for the day. They beat Lincoln VBC 25-15 & 25-21. They then played Jay County beating them 25-18 & 25-15. Finished the day play CIViC McMains 25-5 & 25-19.
CIViC McMains undefeated season came to an end when a player did not show up leaving them very short handed. That makes it tough especially when in an A pool. They went 0-3 for the day but other than the 25-5 score, they competed well with all their scores reaching high upper teens or twenties. Have to say I am proud of their efforts. CIViC Wolf was able to go 2-1 in the B pool. Sometimes, I am not a very smart coach. For that, I need to say I am sorry. Our serve receive was too complicated. I am doing a poor job of putting kids in a position to have success because they are thinking too much. We were able to overcome that for much of the season with good serving and a high ace to error ratio. On Sunday, when better teams were not being aced so often and we missed a few more serves, we were exposed. I always teach the our players to KISS, "keep it simple stupid". I needed to look in the mirror and KISS. We will switch from a hybrid 6-2 to a straight up 4-2. The kids tried hard, it was the coaching that was bad.
15's Eurit had a good day going 2-1 in C pool while 15's Crum beat Cass Co. in two and then lost to Madison Grant and Oak Hill to finish the day at 1-2. Great day of volleyball at Carroll. Our CIViC teams went 5-1 for the day. In the C pool CIViC Worl rolled along beating Eastbrook in two 25-23, 25-21 and then beat Cass Co. 25-12, 25-22. In the D pool, our little ones won twice beating Cass Co. 26-24, 9-25, 25-8 and then beat a different Cass Co. team 21-25, 25-11, 15-9. In the A pool Coach Amie's and Lauren's team lost to a good MG team who won the pool 12-25, 16-25. They beat Eastbrook 25-20, 22-25, 15-13. They beat Cass Co., but I do not have the score sheet. Good showing for our elementary players.
15's Crum traveled east to Eastbrook in Grant Co. where they finished runner up in the A pool. They beat Eastbrook in two and Lincoln in two. They lost in three to Jay County. Missed a few too many serves and struggled a bit in serve receive. Still, Jay County is a good club and their 1's team is pretty solid. I am sure we will see them again. Thanks to J. Herron for playing with us. She did a great job.
