The 13's went 2-1 again. They beat Cass Co. 25-17, 25-10. Beat Winamac 25-20 and oh so close 27-25. They lost to Knights Klub oh so close 24-26, 16-25. This brings their season record to 4-2. Coach Ginnie reported that they passed to target better than their last match. She also reported that a couple of her better servers were off a bit.
The 15-8's started their season with the long drive to Cambridge City Lincoln High School. They went 2-1 for the day losing to Momentum (it was their third tournament of the year and our 1st match) in three, beat Lincoln 7th grade in three (24-26, 25-15, 15-9), and then Lincoln's 8th grade in three to win the cross over. We got a lot of volleyball for the buck! G. Stevens led the team in passing at 1.94 (70/36). A. Newbauer led the team in hitting at .257 (14-5/35). H. Jacobs led us in serving with a team high 15 aces, 24 points, 3.33:1 ace to error ratio, and was third on the team in serving to zone (12-5/35) at .200. O. Perry led us in serving to zone at 36.0%. Ice Cream was the world-famous Hill Top in Cambridge City.
Our 18's team went 3-1 against some pretty good competition in Indianapolis. They beat NUF Red 25-18, 25-13. Beat Apex 18-25, 25-17, 15-9. They then lost to the best team in the competition, NUF Black, 19-25, 19-25. They finished the day beating Cass Co. 18's, 23-25, 25-21, 15-11. The 18's were led in hitting by M. Worl (23-5/53= .339), in serve receive by R. Ankrum (46/24= 1.91), and in serving by M. Worl again (4 aces with no errors).
Our youngest team had a successful start to the season going 2-1 at Pioneer. They do not have another match until following spring break.
As expected, it was a rough day for the 15-7's at Pioneer. Why do I say, "as expected?" All the teams at this site other than CIViC play in another power league that is about to finish. Our teams were worried about where to stand, let alone how to play volleyball being their first competition. Those other teams were playing for the fourth or fifth time. The good news, according to Coach Ayres, was the improvement with each match.
The 13's opened the season in fine form as they won their pool and were competitive in the cross over. CIViC started the season beating Winamac 25-14 25-18. They then beat Lincoln 15 and 15. They then lost to the Norse Club 23-25 and 19-25 in the first place cross over. Highlights according to Coach Ginnie included communications and hustle. They need to improve passing to target.
