Numbers!!!
Volleyball wise, life was good as we started the week before the 1st signups on 12/2. We had 74 girls signed up. I assumed a handful would pre-register during the week. That would put us at or very near 80 kids. After cuts, we had 82 last year and 84 the year before. We were right on target.
On Wednesday, registration blew up and just kept going through Friday. We currently have 94 we anticipate coming through the door. If it is anything like past years one or two will not show up. Three or four will that we do not expect.
A quick look at the numbers show we graduated three 2018 seniors. We have five 2019 seniors not returning. CIViC's policy is not to take seniors who are not trying to play in college. As of this morning, we have five juniors not returning. One of those is a Carroll kid with a bum knee. That is a little more than usual. Now we come to the big numbers with freshmen and sophomores. This is the age when reality hits home. A sophomore on her high school JV who does not get much playing time or plays out of position or a freshman on JV who hardly plays. These kids see the handwriting. We lost four sophomores, which is actually low and nine freshmen. That number is normal. At junior high we lost two 8th graders and one 7th grader. We lost four elementary. That is 33 kids not returning. Our two senior classes account for 21.2% of the non-returning players. That leaves 26 girls not coming back. That number might be considered a little higher than normal, but not by much.

We lost three kids to Boilers, one to Performance Point, one to Circle City, and one to I do not where, but I assume she is playing somewhere.
Now, we come to an uncomfortable problem. Every season, we have to cut two or three passers at the high school ages, usually at 16's. We have 48 high school kids playing. Of those 48, 15 of them are 5'5 or smaller. Of those 15, 13 are self-identified as a DS or libero. That is problematic. We will talk about that for sure at the parent meeting.
