Look at the picture on the homepage. Nine girls are there. Only two returned in 2019. I cannot recall ever having turnover like that in our lead team. That impact is being felt as we prepare for the 2019 season. What happened? Lets look from left to right.
Jenna Goodspeed: senior from Northwestern. CIViC's policy is that we do not take seniors who are not playing college volleyball. Jenna is going to attend IWU in Marion, Indiana, which is a strong NAIA program. Their outside hitters are often 5'10-6'1. Jenna is a really good athlete. At her height, she needed to be a great athlete to hit at IWU.
Grace Filbrun: graduated from Carroll. Grace is playing at Depauw University where she was the 2018 Tiger Award winner. Our three year setter is gone.
Mia Moore: senior from Carroll. Mia wants to play college volleyball but does not have an offer yet, so she returned to Circle City VBC. We will blog about the "shotgun" approach to recruiting compared to the "sniper rifle" approach to recruiting. Her hope is that she will generate more offers at a bigger club.
McKenzie Hayslett: senior from Wabash. McKenzie's return was a wonderful surprise. She had no interest in playing college as a junior. A fantastic senior season peaked her interest in playing at the university level. We are helping with that process.
Megan Herr: graduated from Carroll. Megan is playing at Davenport University where she was voted 2018 Most Improved. Our three year middle is gone.
Mackenzie Campbell: senior from Pioneer. Mackenzie has debated for a year about playing university volleyball. "Yes" for a while. "No" for a while. She decided yes following Pioneer's run to the State Finals. Thursday night (1/24) she called Gretchen. No. Her heart was not in it. This one was a surprise and hurts as she is a great passer and an experienced player. Ouch.
Elizabeth Garing: senior from South Newton. Elizabeth is attending Indiana State University. We pretty much knew she was going to be a one year player for CIViC as her intended major was going to demand so much time. Elizabeth was not just good but great in defense. She might have been the best I have ever coached.
Payton Beiswanger: senior from West Central. Payton is United States Army. She enlisted last spring, completed Basic Training last summer, and will train as an MP following her graduation. Obviously, she is not playing college ball.
Makayla McMains; sophomore from Carroll. Makayla ended up playing 18's as a freshmen last season when we refunded the money for the opposite who we thought was playing. That young lady simply was not going to be available as much as we needed.
